Hi all,
I recently returned from visiting family in New Zealand. I had a couple of days up at Turangi on Lake Taupo. Rivers a bit cloudy due to rain a few days earlier but fishing very good. I had a morning on the Waimarino River with a local and hooked 14 fish, for 8 caught, and missed as many strikes! I also caught a few in the Tongariro River near the town. The fish were all nearly identical – beautiful strong and acrobatic rainbows around 2 KG (estimate by the local); fish in photo is typical. Caught indictor nymphing with a two-fly set up – heavy hare and copper with a trailing lighter nymph, small wet or egg fly – didn’t seem to matter what.
Best wishes,
